I have something that I’d like to share with fellow Eagleziners.
I sell direct mail. At least once a week someone makes a statement to the effect that printing is bad on the environment, that direct mail kills trees, OR I’m reminded in emails to save trees by not printing an email.
I’m here to tell you to use paper. Print that email. Get the newspaper. Request the direct mail. Don’t get me wrong, I love the environment; I especially love trees.
Here is why you can print to your heart’s content…
According to the EPA, nearly 57% of all paper consumed in the U.S.
Paper is a renewable resource. Trees grow, they are harvested and they are replanted. Trees used for paper manufacturing are grown in managed forests, often times by small independent family farmers with fewer than 50 acres. Those farmers need to sustain their livelihood. When they harvest a tree, they plant 10-12 trees in its place. During the first half of this decade over 400,000 acres were added annually to cultivation. On average, over 5 million trees are planted in the U.S.
Most important, if those managed forests were not involved in the production of paper, those forests would be at risk of being developed for other uses — think parking lots and shopping malls, families would be out of business, and an increase in the risk of forest fires from poor forest management would be the result.
So feel free to print this newsletter, or anything else. You will only be helping to save trees, and jobs.
